Boston College (BC) 35 – 28 Virginia Tech (VT): Boston College Odds

Obviously we can drive two opinions from the result, either BC is underrated or VT is overrated. In reality it’s a bit of both. Speed is important though, it’s not everything, the Eagles have a tuned-in squad that will minimize mistakes. Those that took the BC moneyline Saturday had cool confidence in their Eagles at Alumni Stadium. With the addition of Boston’s new Encore Casino, surely their were plenty of Boston fans who were able to safely place their bets on the Eagles upset win.

First thing that comes to mind with Boston College football is perseverance against more talent and speed. Minimize mistakes, hard-nosed defense, huge offensive-line, solid run game. BC banner years always seemed to have a solid if not great quarterback (QB). This group is not all that different from BC teams in years past, they will be the slower team—but as we saw Saturday, speed ain’t everything.

Boston College Football Odds and the Upset Watch

This year has brought a renewed sense of urgency for Coach Steve Addazio. Defense has rarely been an issue in his tenure and this year appears no different. I see a young but solid defensive back core, promising yet unproven. On the flip side is the pressure, the defensive line comes in with a slew of 4th and 5th year guys, though most are lacking in true grind experience. Despite all that, solid BC defensive pressure forced three (3) interceptions on Saturday, ultimately being the difference in the game.

Addazio finally has an offensive setup that can put up points on anybody. Sure, running back AJ Dillon is no secret, but that is the point. If BC can utilize the other parts of their offense like they did in the victory over Virginia Tech week-in and week-out, they could be upsetting some brand name programs and better teams alike along the way to a 10+ win season.  With a couple less-than-formidable opponents on deck, the Eagles should be 3-0 going to Rutgers, and on into ACC action vs. Wake, Louivelle, NC State, and then #1 Clemson.

Simply put, this team can go as far as the 3rd year starting QB, Anthony Brown, can take them. Defenses will be overloading on the run to contain AJ “gameplan” Dillon, opening up the field for Brown. So if BC has any dreams of competing with Clemson, it is going to come down to offensive play calling and execution from Brown, all with the underlying assumption that Dillon balls out.

Boston College Over Under in their Upcoming vs RichmondTake the Over: Last meeting in 2017 BC wins 78-73. Advice, stay away from this one, though BC likely to take the opportunity to make a statement. The Over/Under is set at 57—go with the over.

Boston College Over Under Wins Prediction (including bowl game): Brain says 9, heart says 10

Reality vs Clemson/ACC Championship hopes: Yes anything can happen, and BC has a way of giving us WTF moments, but I just don’t see how they get by Clemson, and with that I don’t see how they get in otherwise.
